Get The Most Out Of Your Barre Class

For many people who want to get in shape, barre exercise classes are a great tool you can use to reach your desired performance. Barre classes are designed to help you engage different muscles in your body, increasing your cardio health as well as helping you build strength all over your body. Of course, you might find that some of the exercises grow too easy when you come to class regularly.

If you want to bring your barre performance to the next level, you can make some additions to the exercise so that you can feel the burn even more. Here are a few things you can do to take your barre practice to the next level.

Increase Your Weight Sizes

Many barre classes will start you out with low weights. Some people might use one-pound weights, but you might want to increase your weight slowly so that you can feel more engaged in your arms and shoulders when you work out.

This also means you might want to add weights to exercises that don't typically use them. You can use the weights during a side plank or crunch, for instance. Just make sure you stick with what feels safe.

Take It to Your Toes

When possible and safe to do so, you might consider doing the exercises on your toes. The instructor may advise you when it is a good idea to do this. This is a great way to amp up the work your thighs and glutes are doing. This may work better when you are at the barre, because it allows you to work on your balance skills as well.

Take It Deeper

You can also always amp up your leg work by going deeper, so long as you are safe. This works great with a plie when you can bring your thighs parallel with the floor. If you are not able to hold it deeper, you might try simply performing small pulses that take you deeper and then back up. You may feel the pressure dissipate in this stance.

Talk to Your Teacher

Your teacher may be able to give you some better advice for getting the most out of your barre workout. Make sure to pay attention to any ideas and recommendations about your form that your teacher may recommend. You do not want to risk injury for the sake of building muscle. The good news is that a class provides many of the tools you need to reach a higher level of fitness.
